Greetings and welcome to Salient's first-ever creative writing competition (as far as we know). Here are the details: Salient is hosting a contest for short fiction and poetry. Each category will have two winners, who will each receive $100 and have their work published in Salient magazine. Runners-up will receive $50 and also be published.

Competition Rules
1. Poetry submissions must not exceed 2 A4 pages, while prose submissions must not exceed 2000 words.
2. You may submit up to three poems and one piece of fiction. If you choose to submit for both categories, please send them in separate emails or documents.
3. The deadline for submissions is April 15th, 2024.
4. Please include a brief author bio (maximum of 100 words) in the body of your submission email.
5. Send all submissions to editor@salient.org.nz or reach out with any further questions.
6. The theme for this competition is "around the campfire."
7. Entries are limited to either VUW students, graduates or those based in Te Whanganui a Tara. You do not need to be both, but you do need to be at least one of them.
8. Winning pieces will be published in Salient's "Fiction" issue, winners will be notified in early April.
