Moustache May
By | 23 Apr, 2007
Well, there are about six weeks of term left and they are bound to be full of madness.
Speaking of madness, Moustache Month of May is back for its third consecutive year and this year we’re raising money for Canteen, the Children’s Cancer Society. How will we be raising money for Canteen? The same way we’ve always raised money! VUWSA will be selling fake moustaches in the quad and around Victoria University for the month - all proceeds will be going to Canteen.
Some of our activities will include quiz nights, karaoke nights, DVD marathons (Magnum P.I., of course), a moustache growing contest and the final party (which is always huge).
We’ll be recruiting people for the mo-growing contest on 1 May in the quad at 12 pm so come say hello and sign up! We have many more activities in the works and we’ll have these in a finalised calendar soon, which will be plastered all around the university. It would also be a good idea to keep an eye on the activities page in Salient to stay in the loop.
On another note, if you’re interested in being a volunteer, please send an email to gruschbe@vuwsa.org.nz. Any and all support in collecting for our chosen charity will be much appreciated.
Thanks to a number of sponsors such as VUWSA, NADs hair removal, Sky City Cinema Lower Hutt and Universal Pictures - we have plenty of prizes to give away during all our activities for May. Mount Street Bar (MSB) has also promised prizes and a dollar discount on all stock that’s not already on special behind the bar - this means that the $3 purchase of a fake moustache will pay itself off after the purchase of three drinks!
Since opening its doors this year, MSB has come to the party with prices that students can afford, and this discount probably makes them the cheapest drinks in town. Anyway, there are many more sponsors in the works as I write this and I’ll be sure to let you know who they are. Our sponsors sure know a worthwhile charity when they see one and they want to make fundraising fun for all involved. So my thanks go out to them.
Anyway I’ve got nothing more to say other than give generously to Canteen and thanks to all who are supporting our endeavours.
