University Stock Market

As if it had not already hit rock bottom, the Education Action Group dropped a further 15 points this week, after posters were spotted around the Student Union Building this week sporting the slogan “Your fees have just gone up 5%. It’s time to protest”. Seriously? Surely it would have been better to protest before fees were put up. Oh, right. Good luck with that.

Chancellor Tim Beaglehole and the University Council also drop this week for getting burned in last Tuesday’s Dominion Post. In the ‘Diary’ section, the Dom reported that so many extra security guards were hired for fee setting two weeks ago that they almost outnumbered the protesters who showed up. Furthermore, the Dom reports that the portraits of former Chancellors were removed from the hallway outside the Council Chamber, just in case they got damaged. When you’re getting mocked by the Dom, there’s something to be worried about.

VUWSA Education Vice-President Joel Cosgrove and general executive member Heleyni Pratley both drop 23 points for last week holding up an exec meeting with what has been called by market experts a “lover’s spat”. Cosgrove and Pratley reportedly threw things at each other, with Pratley telling Cosgrove that it was the first relationship she had been in where she does not need to embarrass herself because he does it for her. It was a bad week all round for Cosgrove, who also threw a tanty in an earlier exec meeting.

Another exec couple, CJ Hunt and Delia Timms also spiral this week, after a photo of them touching each other appeared on a poster promoting the Commerce Ball photographer. Hunt, in a display of tastelessness the markets previously thought even VUWSA exec members incapable, was wearing a white suit in the photo. For that, he descends 44 points. Investors were displeased that they passed the poster while eating lunch on what otherwise would have been a pleasant day.
